These photos were taken in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area just west of Las Vegas, Nevada. Where possible I have included multiple images of each species; some of the plants and some of their flower detail. Identification are primarily based on material provided by Dr. Robert Peloquin who lead a series of "wildflower walks" during the springs of 2008-11. Common and scientific names are based on: Niles, W. E. and P. J. Leary. Annotated Checklist of the Vascular Plants of the Spring Mountains Clark and Nye Counties, Nevada. Journal of the Nevada Native Plant Society, Mentzelia:2007 (8). Other references used were: "Mojave Desert Wildflowers" by Jon Mark Stewart, "Flowers and Shrubs of the Mojave Desert" by Janice Emily Bowers, "Mojave Desert Wildflowers" by Pam MacKay, "Cacti, Agaves, and Yuccas of California and Nevada" by Stephen Ingram, and "The Jepson Desert Manual, Vascular Plants of Southeastern California" by Bruce Baldwin, et. al. If you find errors, which I'm sure you will, please leave a comment on this site with the image in question.
